I’m gone into Tekong!

Oh man..7 Hrs left to Tekong Resort!

How i miss the smell of my home, the comfortable bed, and the hot shower..but who cares?Army is gonna be fu, but tough though.

I will be posted to Yankee Company, and at the old SISPEC school, for the next 2 weeks of confinement. But i really wana thank those people who have encouraged and prepared  me on this path to becoming a soldier..Namely:

Vincent Kwan- Always telling me how tough army is, but nevertheless always encouraging me to rough it out for God.

Cameron:  My cell leader for making the days up to Tekong more fun by allowing me to thrash him in FIFA 2007 4-1 using Poland on XBOX 360(and getting beaten up at the same time by this giant hahaha)!

Gen 2.3- For praying and co-laboring with me to bring in souls into the Kingdom of God from Bedok Green and elsewheres..(thanks matty for taking over th role of leading worship in cell!)

Marcus: For giving me expert advice on things to buy etc, and giving me so much stuff for field camp.

Choon Teck: My best buddy in poly..for always suaning and teasing how ‘fun’ tekong is, but nevertheless, a fun partner to be around talking nonsense and playing prank on one another!

My sheep Kah Wai and Kevin (Joo Keng too!): For that lovely Cartel dinner on my birthday and the $70 Gianni Valentino wallet present..(I’m so blessed to see you guys grow!)

JunJie and Weizheng: For the really uplifting supper at Hong Kong Cafe just a few hours ago…I really appreciate it!

Sabrina ong and Jingyi: For the IKEA meals we had, and the ‘Elisha and the dragonfly he swallowed’ ultra ridicuous but funny stories

Jiancong: For the dinner we had at Borsche Restaurant in Serangoon Gardens..thanks for your godly advice and the exhortations!

Joy Tan : For helping me become a more fun-loving person, and teaching me how to play MSN Poker (which i always nearly win her!) , and the great, encouraging talks walking her home once in a while from the MRT..

Isaiah and Carol: For the fun stayovers at their house playing xbox with Isaiah till 3am and talking nonsense too..(but also the inspiring dinner chats and extension of hospitality when i had family difficulties at home..)

and last but not least..Dad and my family for supporting me all these years, seeing me grow from a childish boy to the guy i am today!

Ok..this is one of those very rare moments I sound emo, but really , its a tribute list, though not exhaustive, to some very special people who have played a big part in the prelude to NS.But most importantly, I thank God for being so gracious in bringing me into a deeper intimacy of relationship of knowing Him, and the preparation of heart the Lord did even before i went into the army. I know His promises of souls saved in the camp will come to pass!

Yup..so stay tuned! Hasta la Vista..I will be back in 2 weeks!

The BIG ‘20′

Oh gosh…I turn 20 today!

It marks 2 decades of life on this earth, and reflecting back, i’m no longer in the teenage era but i’m transiting almost into adulthood..

Well, its been rather quiet on my b’day(something i really prefer to noisy parties), but this time round, my twenieth bday is rather monumental and special, as it marks just the beginning of the next phase of life. Gone are those days when i used to love playing Pokemon, playing Counterstrike 1.6, and hanging out with friends nearly every week at the malls. Gone are the days where i had so much free time that i could walk from Katong (near the south east of Singapore), to my house, a distance of 15KM for no reason!

I’m not a kid anymore, but i’m now entering manhood. In fact, in two days exactly, i’m gonna be gone in Pulau Tekong serving NS. There’s a verse that God spoke to me about in the bible from 1 Cor 13:11 that says:

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

I feel God’s call to put away childish things in my life, like a lack of discipline in always waking up very late at 11am daily. Also to stop playing the ’self-pity’ routine, but to start becoming more than an overcomer in every aspect of my life! Somehow, the past few weeks, i seemed to be more joyful and felt really excited about what lies ahead in life when i started getting serious in my personal devotions with the Lord. I don’t know how to explain it clearly, but its an assurance that you know you’re walking assuredly in the Will of God, and not out of it, as was in the past, when i was really a half past six Christian most of the time..

My spiritual thoughts aside, I’ll be away from this blog for the next 2 weeks, as i cannot book out of my army camp due to compulsory confinement. But i’ve been actively engaged in Adbux, a sure-fire way to earn money clicking ads and if you have a big pool of referrals, you are almost guranteed a steady part time income..i’ve earned $8.7 so far with it, and i’m waiting for my earnings to hit the $10 mark in about 2 days so that i can cash it out to Paypal..not in the thousands though, but at least about a hundred extra USD dollars per month to stuff down your pocket. So yea, check it out if you can! I’ve also cashed out my Buyrefs commission earnings totalling $53 so far, so thats a good sum of money before i enter into the army haha..

Ok till 2 weeks later then..going for lunch with dad now at some restaurant in Tampines.

Live Earth Day 2007- An Irony?

Just a very quick thought before i rush to church for cell group…

Today is Live Earth Day, and the event will use the global reach of music to engage people on a mass scale to combat our climate crisis.  Also, people all over the world from 8 cities on 7 continents will be taking part in the events hosted in their countries. In Singapore, we are encouraged to wear green today in support of Live Earth.

But here’s where I strongly feel the irony comes in..There will be an estimated 200 million TV sets consuming electricity today as  they watch the event. So how does Live Earth 2007 support protecting our climate when 200 million TV sets will be consuming electricity from coal and fossil fuels burned to generate it?

Ok that’s all for now.. Gotta rush!

The principle of the 6 steps..

The principle of the 6 steps..

This is a thought that has been replaying itself over and over in my mind. I remember reading it from a book by Malcom Gladwell, the author of that famous N.Y bestseller “Blink!”.  Basically, its a principle Malcom describes that in just 6 steps, you can find anyone in the world.

What this means is that if supposedly you want to find an Ali Baba over in Dubai, and you are currently in the U.S, you just need to find a friend who knows a friend who knows a friend who knows a friend in Dubai who knows a friend…who knows Ali. (6 steps)

Very interesting principle right?

The same principle can be applied to our own lives. Let’s say i want to know George Bush’s personal  mobile number (of course the White House will not disclose it!). I will start with  anyone in my immediate circle of friends. For me, i’ve a friend whom i see every weekend in church. So…

1.I start with him.

2.He knows our Senior Pastor

3.Who knows an American missionary based in Israel who has been invited to a breakfast in the White House before with Mr Bush. (I presume that she has contacts with a White House official because of the invitation)

4. She knows that White House official

5.That White House official knows a senior in the Cabinet who is a personal friend of Mr Bush. (most probably he will know Mr Bush’s mobile!)

6. I get to this White House senior and get Mr Bush’s mobile number from him!

See the chain of networks? If your country is geographically smaller, the chain is much smaller. However, it is proven that the maximum is 6 steps to before anyone gets to the person desired, regardless of the massive 4 billion people in the world!

If we could apply this concept to Internet Marketing, it would only take a maximum of 6 steps before we truly un-mine the niche market goldmine we’ve always desired. Say you want to start marketing Canon Camerasto individuals who are buying Canon cameras online, but the challenge is you do not know which camera is profitable. Therefore, you want to be as specific as possible in targeting your target market. So you will have to ‘drill-down’, and then do market research on the demand..

Heres what i would do:

1.I Start with Cameras (very broad category)

2.I look under Canon.

3.Looking at the product lines of Canon, I deem that Canon’s Consumer products  is where my type of personal cameras will reside.

4.I select Canon->Consumer Products->Cameras

5.Then I select the Camera Type-> Digital

6. I browse through the product lines for Canon Digital Cameras, and after doing market demand research for each of them, i determine that the new Canon Powershot TX1 Digital Camera is the most in-demand camera  around. Therefore, my specific target market group when i’m doing advertising online will be centred around keywords like “Canon Powershot TX1 Digital Camera”, “Canon Powershot TX1 Digital Camera Review”, “Buy Canon Powershot TX1 Digital Camera”.

So we see that applying this principle to Internet Marketing as alot of relevance too!.

Never be ashamed of your weaknesses.

Check this video out! Its about this guy named Paul Potts, and he’s the winner of UK’s first ever Got Talent contest.(similar to American Idol). One of the judges is Simon Cowell, and what you are about to see will literally move you to tears! The video was aired during 1st service in church today, and pastor Yang used this video to illustrate his sermon about “Learning to See”.

But first, abit of background about Paul Potts… Potts broke his collarbone in a bicycle accident in 2003, which prevented him from pursuing opera as a career..That’s why you will notice that he has a weird slant. Also, since young, he has been bullied in school, and that it may have had an influence on his (lack of) self-confidence. He currently works as a mobile phone salesman in Wales, and his lifelong dream is simply: ‘To sing opera”.

However, its a living story that when people see the outside appearance (the charisma, the looks, the popularity, the weaknesses..), God sees a beautifully created being He made who is destined to greatness, doing great things for God! May it encourage my readers to see that you are of priceless value to God despite your weaknesses, because He formed your inward parts when you were still unborn, and knows you by name!
